When I was in college, I used to go to a local food pantry on Saturday mornings to help my dad stock shelves, as well as help pass out food to some of the pantry's clients. At the beginning of every work day, our volunteer supervisor would remind us of the tremendous impact the Northern Illinois Food Bank had on thier operations and their ability to help hungry families in our area.
The families coming to the food pantry came in all shapes, sizes, and needs, but they all had one thing in common - the food from the pantry was going to help them survive and thrive.
I'm blessed in that I've never needed to rely on a food pantry for my next meal, or to help make a paycheck stretch through the month, or to allow me to pay a bill on time instead of chosing between that and dinner. And that's why I'm walking the Foodie 5K.
Your donations will make a difference in the lives of the thousands of people in northern Illinois who are hungry. The funds I raise will stay right here, in our backyard, and will fill an empty plate of a hungry neighbor.
Did you know the food bank can turn your $1 donated into $8 of food?
$20 provides a monthly food box to a senior who is unable to visit a food pantry.
$30 provides $240 of food to a family in need.
$60 a month provides a food-filled backpack to feed three children every weekend of the school year.
Please join me at the Foodie 5K or support my efforts with a donation that will build hope for a family in our community! Every donation makes a difference.
Thanks in advance!
