What is the difference between registering as an individual, starting a team, or joining a team?

Register as an individual. Pick this option if you plan on setting up one page and plan for everyone to donate to that page. Example: A company that wants to set up a virtual food drive that all their employees donate to during the holidays, summer, or employee giving campaign. You will be given the option to name your page and you will be provided a unique URL to send out to employees.

Start a team. Make your drive a team effort! Use this option if you are going to have multiple people raising money for you. Once you start a team, you will automatically become a captain and can start recruiting your friends and family to help you raise funds. Each team member will have their own fundraising page. This is excellent for team competitions. Example: A company registers their team and all of their departments or branches join their team and compete to see who can raise the most funds.

Join a team. This option allows you to join an existing team.

What is a virtual food drive?
A virtual food drive is the online donation portion of the food drive website. A virtual food drive is a fast, easy convenient way to put food on the table for hungry neighbors in our community. It saves the hassle of a trip to the grocery store and lugging heavy cans. It also saves time and resources for the Food Bank, allowing us to skip the sorting and storage, and purchase perishable items like meat, dairy, and fresh fruit and vegetables.

What if I just want to register a food drive?
Great! When you register your food drive on the food drive page, you will automatically receive a Virtual Food Drive option to collect money online. You can choose to utilize this tool.

Money vs. Food: Which do you prefer be donated?
Food is always welcome. Monetary donations are stretched to provide more food than through traditional physical collections of food. Ideally, a drive that brings in both is best! When you register your food drive, you are automatically setup with virtual food drive page to share with your friends, family, and colleagues.

How much food can the Food Bank provide with my monetary donations?
$1 = $8 worth of food.

How do you stretch my donation?
The Food Bank’s incredible buying power is due to the generosity of the community donations received from manufacturers, retailers, and individuals help keep costs down.

How will I know the impact of my donations?
After your donations are weighed, you will receive a letter acknowledging your donations. One meal = 1.2 pounds and $1 = $8 worth of food.

Where is the Food Bank Located?
The Food Bank distributes food from three centers across our 13 county service area in Northern Illinois. Food and fund donations are gladly accepted at all locations. For funds to be recorded on your individual or team page, you must complete the offline donation with the funds raised.

Where do I deliver my donations?
Please deliver all donations to the center closest to you. Email to schedule a time to deliver donations less than 1,000 pounds, the equivalent of 30 office copy paper boxes.

How do I schedule a pick-up?
Pick-ups must be scheduled at least seven (7) days prior to desired date. Minimum requirement of 1,000 pounds (30 office copy paper boxes) for pick-up. Email with your pickup request. ALL DONATIONS MUST BE PACKED IN SMALLER BOXES BEFORE DRIVER ARRIVES. PLEASE RETURN ALL USABLE FOOD DRIVE BOXES AND POSTERS TO THE FOOD BANK.

Are food drive boxes or poster available?
Large boxes are available for use during your drive—the boxes measure 19.5” x 19.5” square, and 34” tall. Boxes are for display and collection only. Once food is collected, it should be repackaged into smaller boxes for delivery and pick-up. Because of this, we ask all hosts to take a maximum of four (4) boxes.

Boxes may be picked up at any of the Food Bank centers Mondays-Fridays between the hours of 8:00am and 4:00pm. Boxes are flat and fit in most vehicles. Please use only clear packing tape and retrain from writing on boxes. Posters to help advertise your drive are available in print from and as an electronic file. There is no fee to use boxes or posters.
