Milk: Most Requested, Rarely Donated

While milk is the top food source for calcium, Vitamin D, potassium, and six other essential nutrients that promote strong bones and teeth, the cost is often a barrier for our neighbors in need.

Recognizing that milk is important for the health of our hungry neighbors, Northern Illinois Food Bank initiated a partnership with Prairie Farms Dairy to provide our food pantries with a direct delivery of fresh milk each week.  Currently, this program provides about 12,000 gallons of fresh 1% milk  every month.

Your support of our Milk2MyPlate Program can help us provide more gallons of fresh milk for hungry families and children. Joyce Budnick, who visits the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry and is the mom of a toddler, told us that being able to get fresh milk makes a big difference for her family. “I know I will always be able to get cereal at the pantry, but [in the past] I often [have] run out of milk,” she said.
